Featured Speaker: Julia Ann Taylor
Program Title: "The Story of a Benevolent Refuge During the Civil War"

Julia Ann Taylor, a charter member of the Granville County Genealogical Society, will be the speaker for the April 1, 2010 meeting of the society. She will discuss Sarah A. Elliott who had written in one of her obituaries - “the good work done by this good woman in the interest of helpless humanity has never been equaled by any woman in the state. (N.C.)” She was from eastern North Carolina and refuged to Oxford when Roanoke Island fell to the Northern Troops. In Oxford her good works were continued until her death in 1891.

Julia Ann was born and reared in Granville County and after completing her education at Saint Mary’s in Raleigh and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, she returned to Oxford where she has lived ever since. She is married to Dick Taylor, also an Oxford native, and they have one son who also lives in Oxford.

The Granville County Genealogical Society will meet April 1, 2010 at 6:30 P.M. in the County Commissioner’s Meeting Room on Williamsboro Street (across from Sunrise Biscuits) in Oxford. As always, guests are always cordially invited to join with members at their meetings.

The meetings of the Granville County Genealogical Society are open to the public. Non-members are always welcome.
