October 5th Program Details
Featured Speaker: Margaret M. Hofmann

Margaret M. Hofmann, a nationally recognized researcher and lecturer, will be the featured speaker for the October 5, 2006 meeting of the Granville County Genealogical Society, 1746; her topic will be 300 Years of North Carolina Land Patents and Grants.

Mrs. Hofmann is a native of Raleigh, NC and is a graduate of the Sacred Heart Cathedral School in Raleigh, also the Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA and additionally, she holds a masters degree in Biochemistry from North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

She lectures across the United States on the usefulness of land records in genealogical and historical research. In 1979, with the publication of Province of North Carolina 1663-1729; Abstracts of Land Patents (later to become 3 volumes), she began the huge project of publishing the entire body of North Carolina grants and patents of land. She has compiled 10 genealogical reference books and a 6 volume series on North Carolina’s historic Granville District.

She and her husband, Dr. Julian G. Hofmann, a retired forester live in Weldon, NC.

For about 2 hours prior to the Genealogical Society meeting, Mrs. Hofmann will have on display copies of most of her books and other books of genealogical interest. These books may be purchased from her.
